ALVIN Pasaol took charge at crunchtime as Petron-Letran dealt Ironcon-University of Santo Tomas its first defeat in the PBA D-League with a 114-101 win yesterday at the Ynares Sports Arena.
Pasaol scored eight of the Knights' final 16 points of the match to chalk up their fourth win in six contests, while ending the Growling Tigers' four-game winning run in the Aspirants' Group.
"Sabi nga namin before the game, we joined this league to beat these kinds of teams, lalo na yung mga wala pang talo. At least this game, naipakita nila na kaya nila mag-bounce back," said Petron-Letran coach Bonnie Tan.
In the Foundation Group, Metropac-SBU overcame Dave Ildefonso's 30-point outburst to beat SMDC-NU, 94-86, for its fifth win in six matches, while Cha Dao-FEU repulsed University of Perpetual Help System Dalta, 83-64, to raise its record at 3-3.
Jerrick Balanza was sensational with a season-high 34 points, to go with nine rebounds and two steals while Pasaol finished with 27 points and eight rebounds for the Knights.
Aside from dealing coach Aldin Ayo against his alma mater that gave them the 2015 NCAA championship, Petron-Letran got back to its winning ways after suffering a sound 64-83 loss to Cignal-Ateneo last week.
Jeremiah Taladua contributed 13 points and four rebounds in a reserve role, King Caralipio added 11 points, four boards, and two assists, and Renato Ular got a double-double with his 11 points and 11 rebounds.
