Philippine Basketball Association employees are grinning and it's easy to understand why.
During the PSA Sports Forum yesterday, PBA commissioner Willie Marcial announced that PBA employees have tested negative for the novel coronavirus.
All employees have yet to receive their official results, but Marcial has gotten word that none of them were positive for the novel coronavirus.
"Mukhang kami rin ay negative lahat sa PBA staff. Iniintay lang namin ang resulta, pero may nagsabi na sa akin na negative ang PBA staff," Marcial said.
All 41 PBA employees, including Marcial, were tested through the initiative of San Miguel Corp. president Ramon S. Ang.
All SMC teams -- San Miguel Beer, Barangay Ginebra, and Magnolia -- were also tested for the coronavirus, with none returning a positive result. Teams of the Manny V. Pangilinan group (TNT KaTropa, Meralco, NLEX) were also tested.
"Sa PBA family, wala akong nabalitaan na positive or PUM (persons under monitoring)," Marcial said. "Mga lima or anim na teams, walang sinasabi na positive."
COVID-19 testing is among the requirements that the PBA included in its protocols for teams to return to practices. As of the moment, the league is waiting for the government's response to its proposal.
The league is hoping they could hold one tournament this season.
