AS part of its year-long program to develop the skills and character of their players while promoting friendship and camaraderie, the Pinoy Youth Dreamers will participate in the 7th Asia-Pacific Basketball Youth Cup in Singapore.
To be handled by PYD founding president and coach Beaujing Acot, the Filipinos are expected to figure prominently in the title picture in the week-long competition.
“This is another good opportunity for our PYD players to show their basketball talent before an international audience,”said Acot, who is leaving no stone unturned to ensure the success of the Filipino team’s campaign.
“At the same time, the competition will give the players the opportunity to meet their counterparts from other countries who share the same passion for basketball,” added Acot, who is best remembered as a member of the coaching staff of the last University of Santo Tomas team which bagged the UAAP title.
Among those expected to play for the team are Rencobie Tolentino, Jean Harris Uy, Dirk Justin Geronimo, Pio Legaspi, Roan Dancel Dagdagan, Ankush Singh, Clarence Andrei Ramos, Carl Patrick Miranda, Paul Vincent Raganit, Timothy Tanaman, Joshua Peter Chan and Kenshin Estangco.
Acot and the rest of the Singapore-bound PYD team expressed their gratitude to the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP), Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) , Smart Communication Inc., Buddy’s Pancit Lucban, Regent Food Corporation, Batis Armin Hotel and Resort, Hygienix Alcohol Splash Corporation, JAMAN, Hook Up Clothing and watches, H+Autoworks, Xpress Printing, Arceege Sportswear and Barangay San Antonio, Pasig City.
“Without the support of these individuals and companies, the PYD will not be as successful today,” said Acot.
