Scorpions take on Stallions

CENTRO Escolar University seeks to extend its perfect run to five games in the Foundation Group as it takes on winless CD14 Designs-Trinity University of Asia today in the PBA D-League at JCSGO Gym.

The Scorpions have been a class of their own this season, but coach Derrick Pumaren would not want to think about it all, as his team might become complacent.

“We can’t afford to make mistakes because for us, we have to take care of the ball and just continue to play better defense,” said Pumaren.

CEU capped its amazing run with a 71-64 conquest of City of Valencia Bukidnon-San Sebastian last March 19, making the Scorpions the prohibitive favorite in 11 a.m. meeting with the 0-4 White Stallions.

McDavid and FamilyMart-Enderun collide at 1p.m. in a battle between cellar-dwelling teams in the Aspirants’ Group.

CD14 Designs-TUA, which is coming off a 72-91 loss to Marinerong Pilipino last March 25, will bank on AJ Vitug, Michael Cañete and new recruit John Tayongtong.

But the White Stallions will have to find ways to neutralize Senegalese big man Maodo Malick Diouf, who set a new PBA D-League record in rebounds in the win against the Golden Harvest with 30 boards on top of 21 points.

”He really asserted himself inside,” said Pumaren of Diouf, who is averaging 16.25 points, 22 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks this season.
