
Sharks, Supremos score
CEBU City leaned on the hot hands of Patrick Cabahug to pull the rug from under Muntinlupa, 80-73, and boost its chances in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) at the Marist School Gymnasium in Marikina City.
Scoreless in the first period, Cabahug scored 14 points in the second half to lead the Casino Ethyl Alcohol-backed Sharks to their fourth straight win and a 10-11 win-loss record in the southern division of the tournament put up by Senator Manny Pacquiao with PBA legend and former MVP Kenneth Duremdes serving as commissioner.
The loss was the sixth in 18 games for Muntinlupa, which saw its three-game winning streak snapped.
But despite Muntinlupa kept its hold of solo second spot in the southern division behind only Davao.
Last week, Caloocan outlasted Mandaluyong, 83-77, to keep its hopes alive at the Caloocan Sports Complex.
Ex-pro Almond Vosotros finished with 22 points, six rebounds, and six assists, Paul Sanga added 17 points and Mark Sarangay contributed a career-hgih 20 rebounds for the Supremos, who improved to \8-13 overall.
The Longrich-supported Supremos, however, lost Rene Pacquiao, who suffered an injury in the second half of action.
Meanwhile, Gab Banal of the Bacoor Strikers was chosen as Player of the week.
Banal finished with a triple-double performance of 17 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists in leading his squad to a 92-86 upset victory over the Manila Stars last week.
Banal bested two other candidates -- Andoy Estrella of the Quezon Cityand Leo Najorda of Davao Occidental .
