ANTIPOLO CITY -- Winning in style.
Columbian ended nine games of frustrations by beating Rain or Shine, 100-84, in a stunning reversal in the 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup at the Ynares Center.
Although the Dyip are already out of the running for a playoff berth, the win came as a big surprise.
The win assured the Dyip that they will not exit the season-ending, import-flavored conference winless.
Surprisingly enough, the win came against the same E-Painters team that the Dyip had defeated in the elimination round of the first two conferences.
The win broke all losing streaks that Columbian had owned -- an 11-game slide in the 2018 season and a 25-game skid in the Governors’ Cup.
“Hindi na ako sanay manalo,” said Columbian coach Johnedel Cardel during an interview with sportswriters after the game.
“Pagpasok ko dito (press room), hindi na ako sanay. Etong panalo namin, nakatanggal ng tinik sa dibdib,” added Cardel.
Akeem Wright, Jerramy King, Rashad McCarthy, and Ronald Tubid starred in the Columbian’s victory that ended a nine-game skid.
Wright finished with 23 points and 12 rebounds, while King added 18 points, including seven in a 20-6 start by the Dyip.
McCarthy and Tubid produced 16 points apiece.
Terrence Watson had 18 points and 10 rebounds and Maverick Ahanmisi had 16 point for the E-Painters, who dropped to 2-5.
The scores:
