
St. Jude, Chiang Kai Shek triumph
ST. Jude Catholic School came back with vengeance Friday, beating Philippine Cultural College, 102-56, in the first Tanduay Athletics-Metro Manila Tiong Lian Alumni 40 years old and above men’s basketball tournament at the Tanduay gym in Manila.
Louie Kaw exploded with 25 points on 10-of-14 shooting to power St. Jude to a convincing win over PCC only five days after a heart-breaking 75-77 setback to St. Peter the Apostle School in the inaugural last Nov. 11.
Bong Tan, Lorencio Lim, Ingleberg Kaw, Jerson Santiago and Kenneth Chew provided ample support in SJCS's 46-point victory.
Tan finished with 14 points, seven rebounds and six assists; Lim added 14 points with two triples; Kaw contributed 13 points, nine rebounds and five assists; Santiago and Chew had 10 points apiece.
Richard Rondael and Alexander Austria combined for 29 points in PCC’s losing effort.
Overall, St. Jude made 45 of 80 field goal attempts for 56 percent against only 18 of 81 for 22 percent by PCC.
St. Jude also had more assists, 34-11, and more steals, 16-8.
Sharing the limelight in the tournament sponsored by Tanduay Athletics was Chiang Kai Shek College, which bested St. Peter, 70-59.
Kim Ho Hui led theway with a double-double of 27 points and 12 rebounds, and John Christopher Chua added 14 points and 11 rebounds for CKSC.
Kerby Chua topscor3d for SPAS with 21 points despite struggling with 6-of-22 shooting in 26 foul-plagued minutes.
MMTL alumni project director Christian Tan said hostilities resume on Monday (Nov. 19) with St. Stephen battling Xavier at 8 p.m. and Jubilee playing UNO at 9:30 p.m. at the CKSC gym.
Coach Johny Tam is the MMTL Alumni operations head, while Horacio Lim is the commissioner.
