St. Jude strikes again

ST. Jude College and Chiang Kai Shek College pulled off similar impressive victories over their respective opponents in the Tanduay Athletics-Metro Manila Tiong Lian 50 years old and above basketball tournament at the Tanduay gym last Jan. 23.

St. Jude humbled Grace Christian College, 78-68, and Chiang Kai Shek outsteadied Tiong Se, 72-60, in a pair of cruvial victories in the  event supported by Tanduay Athletics.

Bong Tan played another solid game for St. Jude, finishing with 24 points, 11assists  and four rebounds in 32 minutes of action.

Henry Tee added 16 points and seven rebounds, Wilbert Tan contributed eight points, six  rebounds and three assists and Roderick Yu had six points and five rebounds for St. Jude.

Jason So carried the fight for Grace Christian with 16 points and nine assists, while Ben Ong had 14 points.

Henry Co,  Ian VIllaflor , Reynaldo Tan and Parish Uy combined for 44 points in Chiag Kai Shek’s victory over Tiong Se

Co  topscored  with 12 points, Villaflor and Tan had 11 points apiece, and Uy had 10 for Chiang Kai Shek.

Lyndon Alejandro paced Tiong Se with a double double of 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Anson Ong had 12 points and a game-high 17 rebounds and Jonathan Lim had 11 points for Tiong Se.

Last Jan. 21,  Grace Christian  subdued  Uno High School,  56-51, and St. Jude outsteadied St. Stephen, 65-60, in  the  40 years old and  above  basketball championship at the CKSC gym in Manila.

Grace  Christian leaned on Albert Edsel Chua and Edwin Yap to complete a come-from-behind win over Uno and clinch its fourth win in  two matches in the  prestigious  nine-team tournament sponsored by Tanduay Athletics.

Chua  finished  with 12 points, while Yap  added a double double of  10  points and 13 rebounds to power Grace Christian, which  rallied  from  an  early double-digit deficit  to pull   the  rug from  under Uno.

Dexter Quan added eight points and 12 rebounds and Francis Walden Sy had  eight points and five  rebounds in Grace Christian’s  all-important triumph.

Romar Velasco  was  the lone double-digit scorer for  Uno with 11 points on 5-of-11 shooting.        McRobert Dytiandu  finished with nine points and 11 rebounds, John Cheng had nine points,  four rebounds and three assists and Cassie Tan had nine points and seven rebounds for Uno, which dropped  to 4-2 in a tie  with Grace and  Xavier.

St. Jude relied on Ingleberg  Kaw (15 points, 12 rebounds), Louie Kaw (14 points, eight assists),  Lorencio  Lim (12 points, 16   rebounds) and  Jerson  Santiago ( eight points, 12 rebounds) to  upset  St. Stephen and  improve to 2-4.
