
Team LCM, Elite outplay rivals
THE MariQuina Basketball League (Q Cup) continued Saturday with Team LCM and Team Elite leading the march of favorites at the at the Parang Playground Court in Marikina City.
Team LCM brought down Madam Tess, 87-83, with Angelo de Guzman hitting a game-high 17 points in the Senior A encounter.
Team Elite had an easier time, beating Wanbol, 109-90, behind the 21 points of Oneal Amansec in Senior B.
Madam Tess got back at Team LCM, 112 – 109, in overtime in Junior B showdown.
John Benedict Joson exploded with 37 points to lead Madam Tess to a hard-earned victory over Team LCM.
In other results, it was St.. Luke over Victory Slash Bros, 99-92, in the Junior A; Rising Stars over Drews, 126-56, in the Junior A; and Batang GS over Wanbol GBA, 75-60, in the Junior B.
Top individual performers were Steven Gabriel Diño, who had 31 points in St. Luke’s victory; Felix Villarente, who had 22 points in the Rising Stars’ triumph; and Kevin Cruz, who had 19 points in Batang GS’ win.
A project of Cong. Miro Quimbo and Kap. Tatang Zulueta of Barangay Parang as part of their sports develoment program, the tournanent started last Sept. 30 with Batang GS and RVN-Barangay Parang sharing the opening-day limelight.
Batang GS defeated Team Kelly, 97-93, behind the hot hands of RJ De Leon in Senior B.
In Junior A, RVN-Barangay Parang outclassed Wanbol MLA-Nueva Ecija, 86- 72.
Commissioner Sonny Manucat said trophies and cash prizes are at stake in the tournament with the champion getting P15,000.
The second and third placers will receive P10,000 and P5,000, respectively.
