A YOUNG team ready to shine in international stage, the Philippines takes on Southeast Asian rival Indonesia in the Fiba Asia Cup qualifiers today at the BritAma Arena.
Tip-off is at 7 p.m. (6 p.m. in Jakarta).
Bracketed in Group A, Gilas hopes to get off to a good start for the first window of the long qualifier to improve its chances to make it to next year's Asia Cup.
The top two teams of each group will directly qualify for the main event next year.
Meanwhile, the third-placed team in each group will have to play in a separate qualifying tournament to earn a spot in the Asia Cup.
With Mark Dickel and Tab Baldwin at the helm, expect Gilas to perform in system-based gameplay against the Indonesians.
CJ Perez and Kiefer Ravena, who played for the national team in last year's Fiba World Cup, will banner the team along with fellow pros Justin Chua, Abu Tratter, Poy Erram, Troy Rosario and RR Pogoy.
Young turks Thirdy Ravena, Matt Nieto, Isaac Go, Juan Gomez De Liaño and college rookie Dwight Ramos hope to make an impact for Gilas.
Kiefer Ravena will finally showcase his leadership as the new national team captain, while Erram, Tratter, Rosario and Go will be the men in the middle.
All eyes will be also on three-time UAAP Finals MVP Thirdy Ravena, who produced an impressive performance in the final window of the Fiba World Cup Asian qualifiers last year.
Indonesia opened its campaign with a 76-109 loss to Korea at home last Thursday.
