NINE coaches from the Plipinas Sepaktakraw Association, Inc. (PSTAI) wll participate in the Asian Sepaktakraw Federation (ASTAF) certified online coaching course on May 18-29.
PSTAI president Karen Tanchanco-Caballero said national team coaches Gene Mark Saavedra (men) and Deseree Autor (women) will head the nine-man Philippine team participating in the online coaching seminar live online via Zoom from ASTAF headquarter in Singapore.
"We have accredited our coaches and shortlisted the applicants based on merits," said Caballero in a message to People's Tonight yesterday.
"Two of them -- national coaches Saavedra and Autor -- are sponsored by the PSTI," added Caballero, also the vice president of the International Sepaktakraw Federation.
The other Filipino coaches taking part in the seminar are Rommel Ocampo, Joseph Dela Torre, Raul Fornis, Aaron Jayme Flor, Stephanie Anne Kim, Dustin Paolo Cruz and Jonathan Aquino.
Saktiandi Supaat, Member of Parliament for Bishan-Toa Payoh Singapore, will officiate the online seminar for around 75 sepak takraw officials all over Asia.
Seminar time 11 a.m. on May 18.
"This will be an opportune time where coaches from around the world will be afforded world class direction and guidance.
Thus, setting the norm for which we all shoud embrace even if the pandemic has caused us a big challenge," said ASTAF president Abdul Halim Bin Kader in his official invitation.
"The content of this first ever course done online is to equip the coaches with the standards that would allow them to them to function with great confidence and integrity. Capturing the essence of discipline to the athletes starts with coaches."
Bin Kader said that ASTAF is also very proud to spread to all 45 member-countries plus 15 new countries more, that topics on safety, biomechanics, professional in coaching, leadership and people management, and the like have all been integrated to be the highlights of the online certification course.
He further elaborated that "ASTAF understands the urgency for coaches to continue contributing value to athletes.
"We have designed this certification course in a seven-day, all-in delivery, so that the earlier coaches are provided wider perspectives, the earlier they can also transfer such knowledge and apply it to their athletes.
The ASTAF president said that he has envisioned sepak takraw to be at par with the world even with the huge challenge due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
