Adamson stays clean in softball

DEFENDING champion Adamson got its hitting game going to trounce University of Santo Tomas in abbreviated fashion, 14-0, and stay perfect in the UAAP softball tournament yesterday at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.

Arianne Vallestero made four RBIs and three hits while Krisha Cantor, Mary Joy Magual and Nichole Padasas each had two RBIs as the Lady Falcons reasserted their mastery of the Tigresses in a rematch of last year’s Finals, extending their undefeated run to four games.

Adamson pitcher Riflayca Basa was also solid in the match that went only four innings, striking out five batters.

It was the third time this season that the eight-peat seeking Lady Falcons scored more than 10 runs.

National University vaulted to second place at 3-1, but needed extra innings to beat La Salle, 5-4.

Despite their second consecutive loss, the Lady Batters remained in the top three range with a 3-2 record.

UST, with its second defeat in four contests, fell in a tie with idle University of the Philippines in fourth spot.

University of the East, meanwhile, edged Ateneo, 5-4, to enter the win column after three successive setbacks. The Lady Eagles, who rallied from a 1-4 deficit but fell short, went down at 0-4.

In baseball Sunday, Ateneo outlasted La Salle, 13-11, for its third straight victory and snatch the solo lead. UST overpowered NU, 16-2, while defending champion Adamson slipped past UP, 4-1.

The Growling Tigers and the Falcons forced a three-way tie for second place with the Green Batters at 2-1,  while the Bulldogs and the Fighting Maroons remained winless in three starts.
