Archers pay tribute to patron

TRIBUTES poured with the passing of La Salle basketball godfather Eduardo "Danding" Cojuangco Jr., who passed away Tuesday at the age of 85.

Cojuangco, who is San Miguel Corporation's chairman and chief executive officer at the time of his death, bankrolled the successful Green Archers' men's basketball program from 2012-19, resulting to two UAAP championships in 2013 and 2016.

Aldin Ayo, who coached La Salle for two seasons highlighted by its 2016 championship run with Ben Mbala leading the charge, paid respects to Cojuangco.

"RIP Boss. Thank You for the opportunity. Forever grateful for your kindness and generosity," said Ayo through his social media accounts yesterday.

After leaving the Archers camp late in 2017, Ayo said that the time he spent with La Salle was "two well-spent years indeed", showing his gratitude to Cojuangco.

Louie Gonzalez, who was promoted by Cojuangco as head coach after the departure of Ayo, was also thankful for the opportunity given to him in his brief stint with the Archers in 2018.

"We lost a great man today. I am honored and blessed to have known you. You were truly a blessing in our life. Maraming pong salamat Boss ECJ," said Gonzalez on his Facebook account.
