Blu Girls to compete in tough US tilt

Softball president Jean Henri Lhuillier gives a pep talk to the PH Blu Boys before leaving for Georgia, USA to compete in a tough international softball tournament.

Following their strong performance in the recent Asia Cup Women’s Softball Championship in Jakarta, the Cebuana Lhuillier backed-Philippine Blu Girls will fly to Georgia, USA to compete in the USA Softball International Cup at the South Commons  Complex in Columbus, Georgia.

The Blu Girls, ranked 13th in the world, will face eighth-ranked China in their first game on July 1.

“This tournament is an avenue for the Blu Girls to gauge their strengths and weaknesses in preparation for the qualifying tournament for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in September,” said softball president Jean Henri Lhuillier.

“Our team will be playing against top teams in Asia and Oceania and I am very confident that the girls will prove their mettle,” he added.

Lhuillier added that this tournament will be helpful in determining who will be joining the final team playing at the qualifying tournament.

The Blu Girls will also face the tough American squad on the same day.

Other teams participating  are USA’s U-19 Women’s National Team, second-ranked Japan, No. 4 Puerto Rico, No. 5 Mexico, No.6 Chinese Taipei, No. 20 Peru and the Scrap Yard Fast Pitch.
