Bulldogs capture cheerdance title

November 17, 2018

NATIONAL University’s Pep Squad bested Far Eastern University and Adamson to complete a successful comeback in the UAAP cheerdance throne before a capacity crowd of 20,117 at the Mall of Asia Arena last night.

The Bulldogs were simply sensational in winning their fifth cheerdance title in six years.

Making amends from last season’s disappointment of missing the podium, NU Pep Squad did not let its community down with a near-flawless and precise performance to reclaim the bragging rights as the league’s best cheerdance squad with 711 points.

What was so amazing about it was that the Bulldogs never got any penalty deduction from the five judges, which meant that they’ve got clean routine without sacrificing the quality of their performance.

”Nag-aral kami ng bagong stunts, pyramids and tosses,” said NU coach Ghicka Bernabe.  ”That’s the main goal, we will try not to commit any deductions.”

A funky FEU Cheering Squad brought back a lot of memories with their 70s-inspired moves, garnering 655.5 points, to make a return trip to the podium with a runner-up finish.

Last year, the Falcons delivered a disciplined near-flawless, entertaining performance on their throwback-inspired show to win their first title.

This season, Adamson Pep Squad brought pride with a Lion King-inspired routine but even with its solid showing was not enough, settling for a third place this time with 638.5 points.

University of Santo Tomas’ bemedaled Salinggawi Dance Troupe paid tribute to Beyonce with an electrifying  fierce performance that wowed the yellow-clad crowd.

But the Growling Tigers, who won their eighth and last title in 2006, failed to make it in the top three, falling .5 point short as the 10-point penalty deduction spelled their doom.

University of the East Pep Squad, burdened by the pressure of being the first performer, could only place fifth with 602.5 points after reaching third last year.

University of the Philippines’ Pep Squad pulled all the stops, bringing out its trademark “sablays” in a Maroon-themed routine, but was able to draw 568.5 points good for sixth spot.
