NATIONAL University stamped its class over defending champion University of the East, 4-1, to complete a men’s first round sweep over the weekend in the UAAP lawn tennis tournament at the Colegio de San Agustin courts in City of San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan.

In the women’s division, La Salle turned back titleholder University of Santo Tomas, 4-1, to top the first round with a 3-1 record.
Ateneo, which finished second to NU in the first round, swept its weekend ties with similar 5-0 victories over University of the Philippines and Adamson.
The Blue Eagles now have a 5-2 slate alongside the Growling Tigers, who beat the Green Archers on consecutive days, 4-1, bridging the end of first round and the start of the second round.
The Red Warriors rebounded from last Saturday’s loss to the Bulldogs with a 3-2 conquest of the Fighting Maroons Sunday to move at 4-3 in solo fourth. UP fell out of the top four range with a 3-4 card.
The Lady Eagles bested the Lady Bulldogs, 3-2, to seize solo second with a 3-2 card, while the Tigresses bounced back from last Saturday’s defeat to the Lady Archers with a 4-1 romp of the Lady Maroons.
UST forced a three-way tie in third place with NU and UP at 2-3.
