Cheerleading rivalry renewed as NCAA 94 ends

ARELLANO University and University of Perpetual Help System Dalta continue their riveting cheerleading rivalry as curtains in NCAA Season 94 fall today at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The Chiefs Squad seeks nothing less than a three-peat feat, while the Altas Perps Squad aims to reclaim lost glory.

The event, which  starts at 3 p.m., will also feature the presentation of champion teams in all events, as well as the formal awarding of general champions San Beda in the seniors division and Perpetual Help in the juniors division to close out the season.

Arellano coach Lucky San Juan is optimistic that his cheerdancers will bring in another strong performance after preparing as early as last year.

The Chiefs Squad topped last year’s edition when it garnered a total of 234.50 points, besting a field that included the Perps Squad and earning the Legarda-based team their second straight cheerleading title and third overall in the last four seasons.

Perpetual Help wound up second with 226 points. The Altas Perps Squad is the most successful cheerleading team in the league after they won nine championships in the competition’s 14-year history.

“We’ve worked hard the whole year, we’ll do our best,” said long-time Perpetual Help mentor Ruf Rosario, whose team will be second after College of Saint Benilde in the order of performance.

Arellano will be the fourth performer after Mapua, while Emilio Aguinaldo College, Jose Rizal University, San Beda and Letran will follow suit.

The spotlight will be on the Red Lions’ student-athletes who amassed 698 points to clinch their fourth straight overall title and seventh overall.

The Junior Altas gained 365 points to reign supreme in the league for the first time ever.
