Nationwide hunt for triathletes launched

OPENING the doors for untapped talents hoping to become like Nikko Huelgas and John Chicano, Go for Gold has launched a nationwide search to discover triathletes in a series of races that will kick off on Sunday in Naga, Cebu.

“This program aims to encourage more young individuals to pursue excellence in sports,” said godfather Jeremy Go during the press conference yesterday at the Rudy Project branch in Uptown Bonifacio, Taguig.

The aspirants need to compete in six races starting with the Go for Gold Sunrise Sprint-Cebu, a short distance triathlon featuring a 750-meter open-water swim, 20-kilometer bike and 5-kilometer run.

The top male and female triathletes after the six legs will be given a professional contract by Go for Gold to become a part of the team.

“There is no shortcut towards success. But if your dream is to be part of Go for Gold Philippines, then this is your time to shine,” said Go.

The other races will be at the Vermosa Sports Hub in Imus, Cavite on May 19, Nuvali in Santa Rosa, Laguna on June 16, Davao City on July 7, Clark on July 28 and Subic on Nov. 4.

The 10 fastest times in the men’s and women’s categories during the SBR races and the Go for Gold Sunrise Sprint open category will be given corresponding points according to their order of finish.

The winners will be announced after the Nov. 4 race that will ultimately form the Go for Gold team.

“We will also provide equipments for the winners. I’m very excited for this series to showcase upcoming talents. Our goal is to develop the athlete,” said Go.
