The Philippines’ Nesthy Petecio exacted vengeance on Japanese Sena Irie Thursday, scoring a 4-1 decision in their quarterfinal bout in the World Women’s Championships in Ulan Ude, Russia.
Sirie had gotten the better of Petecio in the Asian Boxing Championships April this year in Bangkok, but it was payback time for the Filipina bet.
“I felt I wasn’t in top form in Thailand. Kaya ngayon talagang pinaghandaan ko ng mabuti ang tournament na ito”, said featherweight (57kg) Petecio.
On Friday, she faces tall and lanky Kariss Artingstall of England in the semifinal round.
Flyweight Aira Villegas will have her quarterfinals bout against No. 1 seed, Chinese-Taipei’s Hsiao Weng Huan.
