THE Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) is doing its share to help the country "heal as one" in the wake of the coronavirus disease (COVID -19) pandemic.
The PSC, thru Chairman William "Butch " Ramirez, has donated 90 mattresses to four hospitals to help health care workers now serving as frontliners in the fight against COVID-19.
The assistance was made to Dra. Susana P. Campos, Immediate Past Medical Director of Medical Center Manila, thru the efforts of Philippine Swimming, Inc. (PSI) president Leilani Velasco.
"I would like to express my profound gratitude to the 90 mattresses that you so generously shared thru Mrs. Leilani Velasco, to us in the health care system," Dra. Campus wrote in a letter to Chairman Ramirez.
Dra. Campos said the mattresses will be distributed to the four hospitals, namely, Medical Center Manila, Emilio Aguinaldo College Medical Center Cavite, Fe Del Mundo Medical Center and Capiral Medical Center.
"The health workers in these medical centers have opted to stay in-house to conform with quarantine requirements and avoid the transportation difficulties. These mattresses will provide the exhausted frontliners some physical comforts when they have their rest oeriods," added Dra. Campos.
Earlier, the PSC also donated 100 mattresses to the UP Genome Center and the Research Institute for Tropucal Medicine (ROTN) in Muntinlupa.
Thw UP Genome Center volunteers are setting up a testing center and need the mattresses to meet requirements.
