THE Philippine Volleyball Federation (PVF) will provide technical officials in the coming Batang Pinoy National finals in Baguio City Sept. 15-21, a development welcomed by the association which is campaigning to regain its membership in the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC).
“We are happy to announce that the PVF is once again allowed to fulfill its mandate in the grassroots development of volleyball. This is one big step towards regaining our recognition as a working national sports association,” said PVF president Edgardo “Tito Boy” Cantada.
Cantada also expressed gratitude to PVF sec-gen Gerard Cantada, managing director Rustico Camangian and Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) executive director Atty. Guillermo Iroy who sealed the agreement following a meeting recently.
“By allowing the PVF to participate in the officiating and conduct of volleyball in the Batang Pinoy, our association gets its long overdue recognition as a working NSA.”
The PVF chief added that, along with the honor of serving the youth in the Batang Pinoy, “we look forward to meeting the new friends we've made under the PVF's own program.”
The PVF, through its chairman Mikey Arroyo and Tanduay Sports, have been going around the country to provide young volleyball players sport equipment.
So far, the PVF has provided less privileged but young players, through their respective schools, some 50,000 volleyballs and hundreds of nets “so that even athletes from far flung areas will learn the basics of volleyball.”
“We'll meet again, in Baguio City, and there they will see how the PVF conducts a good volleyball competition,” added Cantada.
