
Sweet 16 for Orbe
LAWYER Cliburn Anthony Orbe of Alphaland Corp. posted back-to-back victorie s over Susan Grace Neri in the Round-of-64 and Novo Tuazon in Round-of-32 to advance to the Sweet 16 of the 2018 Alphaland National Executive Chess Championships hosted by Philippine Executive Chess Association (PECA) at 2F,
Alphaland Makati Place, last Saturday.
Orbe defeated Neri, coach of La Salle, and Tuazon, an engineer, by smilar 2-0 scores to advanace to the Round-of-16 against Stephen Manzanero of Novaliches Novelty Chess Club.
Manzanero earned the right to meet Orbe in the Round-of-16 by defeating Orlando Pascual in the Round-of-64 and Ali Guya in the Round-of-32.
Also making it to the Round-of-16 are C lark Dela Torre, who eliminated Erwin Calar and Joselito Cada; Narquingel Reyes, who downed Zomer Amir and Angel Tambong; Eduard Sumergido, who beat Jose Aspiras and Francis Jocson; Wilhelm Ardiente, who toppled NM Allan Sasot and Allen Gandia; Rey Reyes, who nipped Felix Aguilera and Emmanuel Asi ; Ravel Canlas who edged Mark Anthony Yabut and John Franz de Asis;
Dandel Fernandez, who ousted Bob Jones Liwagon of the Philippine Army; Ervil Villa, engineer Archie Bayangat,Jaime Frias, Norman Montejo, Lyndon Sombilon and Adrian Orozco.
The champion will receive the top prize of P50,000 and a NM title in rapid event, according to Chess Arbiter Union of the Philippines (CAUP) president Red Dumuk.
The event is supervised by Alex Dinoy, Alfredo Chay and Christian Javier.
