THE country’s best jins take center stage on Feb. 8-9 when they compete in the SMART/MVP Sports Foundation/PLDT Home Ultera National CPJ (Carlos Palanca Jr.) taekwondo championships at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall.
Among the seasoned performers who will also vie for slots on the 2020 Philippine national team are Pauline Lopez, Kurt Barbosa, Arven Alcantara, Samuel Thomas Harper Morrison and Dave Cea.
PTA’s new Secretary General, Raul Samson, says 1,500 athletes are expected to see action in Kyorugi (free sparing) and Poomsae (forms) during the prestigious two-day event.
Kyorugi will feature Senior, Junior, Cadet and Grade School fighters for both male and female while Poomsae will be disputed in two divisions — individual and free style.
Samson adds that the competition will serve as a tuneup for the Philippine team members to the Asian championships, World Junior championships and World Poomsae championships this year.
Parents interested to enroll their children in the sport and martial art enthusiasts are invited to watch the event, which starts at 9 a.m.
The tournament sponsors are PLDT, Meralco, Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee, Milo and Inspire Sports Academy.
