DEFENDING champion La Salle tests the mettle of one of its biggest threats in University of the Philippines, while University of Santo Tomas and Far Eastern University renew their long-standing UAAP women's volleyball rivalry today at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Facing a team aching to get back on the winning track, the Lady Spikers are bracing for a tough battle with the Lady Maroons in the 4 p.m.game.

The Tigresses shoot for a second straight win against the Tamaraws' side eyeing to end a two-match slide in the curtain raiser at 2 p.m.

La Salle is currently on top with a perfect 3-0 slate, while UP and UST are locked in a three-way tie with idle Ateneo in second at 2-1.

Last season's runner-up FEU is outside the top four range, sporting a 1-2 card alongside University of the East and National University.

The Lady Spikers found the Lady Bulldogs a difficult nut to crack before carving out a 25-10, 20-25, 27-25, 25-22 win last Wednesday.

Sorely missing the services of ailing setter Ayel Estrañero, the Lady Maroons put up a valiant fight before dropping 24-26, 27-25, 16-25, 20-25 decision to the Tigresses last Sunday.
