SAN SEBASTIAN went through the wringer before carving out a 25-12, 25-21, 17-25, 22-25, 15-9 victory over Lyceum of the Philippines University for a winning start yesterday in the NCAA women’s volleyball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
The Lady Stags lost a two-set lead and cashed in on the Lady Pirates’ late-game errors to earn their first win of the season.
In a showdown between last season’s bottom teams, Letran made quick work of Emilio Aguinaldo College, 25-23, 25-21, 25-16, to enter the win column.
San Sebastian and Letran joined opening day winners Arellano University and San Beda for the early lead.
Nikka Dalisay had 21 points, including two service aces, and 13 digs, rookie Shane Requierme had four service aces to finish with 19 points while Joyce Sta. Rita chipped in 12 points, including three service aces for the Lady Stags.
Sta. Rita, who is on her final season with San Sebastian, closed out the one-hour, 56-minute match with a running spike.
Rocelyn Hongria had 17 points and nine digs while Mikaela Rafael and Elaine Juanillo chipped in 11 and 10 markers, respectively, for LPU.
