SAN SEBASTIAN overcame a tough Mapua stand to remain unbeaten with a 25-23, 25-15, 14-25, 25-23, yesterday in the NCAA women's volleyball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
Except for a dominant second set performance, the Lady Stags struggled in the one-hour, 35-minute match, as the Lady Cardinals gave everything before losing their second straight contest.
Despite scoring two consecutive wins to tie with pacesetters San Beda and Arellano University, San Sebastian coach Roger Gorayeb knows that the team is still a work in progress.
"Ang hirap kasi nago-on and off yung laro. Wala eh, lumalabas yung pagkabata eh," said Gorayeb of his rookie-laden roster. "Ang bilis nilang ma-distract. Ang bilis nilang mawalan ng loob."
Nikka Dalisay led the Lady Stags with 17 points, including two blocks, rookie Ashtara Sarmiento added 11 points, 13 digs and six receptions, while Joyce Sta. Rita had two blocks for a nine-point effort.
Later, College of Saint Benilde made quick work of Letran, 25-19, 25-23, 25-22, to tie its victims, University of Perpetual Help System Dalta and Lyceum of the Philippines University at 1-1.
