TACLOBAN outlasted Pocari Sweat-Air Force, 18-25, 25-20, 25-22, 20-25, 15-9, to end its first round campaign on a winning note last night in the PVL Open Conference at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
Dimdim Pacres, in only her second game in the tournament, delivered 21 points as the Fighting Warays booked their third win in seven contests while handing the Lady Warriors their second loss in a row and third overall in six matches.
Heather Guino-o and skipper Jovie Prado each scored 16 points for Tacloban, which only trails fourth-running PetroGazz (4-3) by a full game.
“Unang-una importante ang game na ‘to. Makalusot man kami dito mas malaki ang tsansa namin para makapasok (sa Final Four) pagdating ng second round,” said Fighting Warays coach Nes Pamilar.
Tacloban erased an early 0-2 deficit in the fifth set, scoring eight of the next 10 rallies.
Guino-o doused cold water on the Lady Warriors’ fight back with back-to-back hits to push the Fighting Warays lead to 10-6 and never looked back.
Jeanette Panaga had 19 points for Pocari Sweat.
