Death toll in Cebu landslide mounting

THE death toll as a result of the landslide that buried dozens of houses in Naga City in Cebu last Thursday rose to 59 yesterday as joint Philippine National Police Crime Laboratory and National Bureau of Investigation personnel continued their Disaster Victim Identification process in the area, Police Regional Office 7 director, Chief Superintendent Debold M. Sinas said.

Typhoon “Ompong” turned out to be a very destructive typhoon that caused loss of lives where it struck. In Itogon, Benguet, so many were buried alive leaving so many widows and orphans behind; and so in Naga, Cebu.

Initial Ompong casualties light

AS predicted, strong winds and heavy rains brought about by typhoon Ompong pummeled Luzon early yesterday morning toppling trees and power lines, tearing off roofs and destroying lightly-built houses, but miraculously it started to leave the country with very minimal casualties.
